This session examines the bearing capacity and settlement behaviour of foundations under general loading in OPTUM GX. A central focus is the unique ability to perform 2D and 3D analyses within the same software - something not available in any other software. This allows engineers to directly compare the two approaches and understand how load spread, geometry, and boundary effects influence overall response.

Topics covered:

  • Bearing capacity of foundations subjected to general loading
  • 2D versus 3D versus conventional shape factors
  • Settlements

Through a detailed example, the session demonstrates how the transition from 2D to 3D can significantly affect predicted settlements and load–displacement behaviour.

Participants will see how OPTUM GX computes both ultimate and serviceability responses without empirical factors or incremental loading, ensuring consistent results across dimensions.

The discussion concludes with practical guidance on applying these results in design — from verifying bearing capacity to evaluating settlement performance with a level of detail and reliability not previously possible.
